Bookending the trip to Singapore was a healthy dose of live music. Before heading off to SIngapore the wife and myself made our annual trip to Coachella. Lots of good bands - highlights being the reformed Jesus and Mary Chain (including Scarlett Johansson duetting on Just Like Honey, a great reference to Lost In Translation), Interpol, Bjork, Travis, Kings of Leon, LCD Soundsystem and the ever fantastic Arcade Fire.
Travis always struck you as a really down to earth band, always happy to playing music. And this sense was confirmed when we bumped into Fran before the Arcade Fire. He was kind enough not to mind saying hello, and I love the fact the whole band wanted to watch from the crowd, not the VIP side of stage guest area. Our friend (and my co-worker) Mike Goller grabbed this photo of him:
After getting back from Singapore we were lucky to hit a great set of shows in Boston. First up, Arcade Fire in the Orpheum. Truly great show.
Next night was LCD Soundsystem at Avalon. Fantastic as always. Amazed how much the crowd dances, sang and cheered at both shows - a rare occurrence in Boston

Had to miss the very good local band Taxpayer last night due to the travel taking its toll, but tonight heading off to see the phenomenon from West Yorkshire that is the Arctic Monkeys.
Did you see a band called Wild Light open up for the Arcade Fire in Boston? They played with my boyfriend's band recently, and they were really good - no CD from them yet, but i think it's coming out soon!

I bumped into Fran Healy on the street in Philly once. Having just seen them open for Oasis a month earlier, they were back in town for a small show at the TLA. We were both stopped at a crosswalk, so I took to opportunity to say HI! and tell him how much I liked what the band was up to. We chatted for about a block or so, and then he asked me where he should go to lunch. Now, I'm not sure if he went to Lorenzo's Pizza for lunch, but it was a nice "rock star" moment all the same.
